So where does all that litter we pick from the riverside go? The vast majority of it is taken away by Streetpride and delivered to the BDR Waste Treatment Facility. This award-winning plant extracts any remaining recyclable materials from household waste and turns what's left into fuel for low carbon electricity! The facility diverts around 95% of waste from landfill, making a significant carbon dioxide saving.
Shanks, who have also funded the LHRD project, have organised a tour of the BDR waste facility so we can see this whole process in action!
If you would like to come along on the tour please email email@example.com or get in touch with one of the team via text. We will need to know your shoe size and jacket size (S, M, L, XL, 2XL) in advance so that Shanks can organise our safety clothing for the day. Parking is limited at Shanks so we will also be organising car-shares.

Chris Firth, DCRT trustee and MBE, will be leading a walk around Sheffield's Fish Passes and telling the tale of the fall and recovery of the river Don. The walk will follow the river Don along the 5 Weirs Walk, leading up the canal to Meadowhall to see the Larinier fishpass.
Sheffield's rivers were once rich in Atlantic salmon but human degradation of the river put an end to this famous migration. Hear about how the building of fish passes is reconnecting isolated fragments of river, helping to bring back the return of salmon for the first time in 200 years.

Join naturalist Julie Riley on a Dawn Chorus walk in Sheffield. We'll be walking along the 5 Weirs Walk in Sheffield and through the Salmon Pastures park listening to the different bird species sing. Male songbirds sing loudly on spring mornings to defend their territories and attract a mate - it really is worth the early wake up call!
If you would like to join us on the walk please email firstname.lastname@example.org to book a place - Free.
